Over two decades of Formula SAE experience
Warrior Racing, Wayne State University’s Formula SAE team, brings over two decades of dedication and hands-on learning to the world stage of student motorsports. Since 2003, the team has designed, built and raced open-wheeled, formula-style race cars, competing annually in international Formula SAE events. With a legacy of continuous improvement and engineering excellence, Warrior Racing is a centerpiece of the Anderson College of Engineering’s tradition of developing real-world skills, teamwork and the pursuit of automotive advancement.

Established 2003

Warrior Racing’s rookie year, 2004, the team competed in the Michigan FSAE competition

The team placed 96th of 146 participating teams overall and completed all static and dynamic events

In 2005, Warrior Racing made the leap from a graduate-led startup effort to a team driven by undergraduates determined to build for the future.

The main design goal was to reduce the weight of the car, which resulted in a 100 pound weight loss
The team was awarded Henkel Technologies’ “Best Use of Structural Foam” award
Building for the Future

In 2006, the car’s braking system was completely redesigned and cooling was optimized for efficiency

The 2008 team placed 42nd of 75 teams overall at FSAE West and placed 7th in Cost Presentation

In 2009, the team completed their first ever comprehensive endurance finish and the highest endurance/fuel economy placement in team history at 31st of 123

Pushing Boundaries

The 2011 car’s weight was further reduced to 485 lbs
The team placed 29th of 121 teams entered at FSAE Michigan in the Presentation event and 48th in the Cost event

In 2012, the team 25th out of 80 teams in the Endurance/Fuel Economy event

Warrior Racing placed 12th overall in 2015, the highest win in team history
